Young generation must help to build a new Bangladesh: Debapriya Bhattacharya

Debapriya Bhattacharya, head of the white paper drafting committee of the interim government and honorary fellow of the Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD), said, 'The country is in a new situation. Therefore, the young generation should cooperate to build a new Bangladesh. They have shown what the young generation can do. We have to use the possibility that is in front of us.'

Debapriya Bhattacharya said these words in a dialogue titled 'Role of Local Technical and Vocational Educational Institutions in Youth Employment Creation' in Sunamganj today. The dialogue was held in the hall of a restaurant in the city with the initiative of CPD and the cooperation of the European Union. People from different classes and professions participated in it.

Deputy Commissioner of Sunamganj Mohammad Ilyas Mia was the special guest in the dialogue program presided over by Debapriya Bhattacharya. CPD Honorary Fellow Professor Mostafizur Rahman gave the closing speech. CPD Senior Research Fellow Toufiqul Islam Khan presented the original report.

Debapriya Bhattacharya commented that if quality education is not ensured, inequality will increase and said in his discussion, quality education will determine the country's position in the country and outside the country in the new situation. Therefore, more importance should be given to reforming education. He also said, 'If we think about any development, then its main basis is education. But we did not get the proper standard of education. It is important that whatever education is imparted, there should be an alignment with the market. Vocational and technical education has a big role in this regard.

The appointed negotiator in the dialogue was District Secondary Education Officer Jahangir Alam, Principal of Sunamganj Technical School and College. Azizul Shikder, Sunamganj Government College Assistant Professor Eva Roy, European Union Program Manager (Education) Jui Chakma and District Small and Cottage Industries Corporation Deputy Manager MNM Asif.

Professor Mostafizur Rahman said in his speech, 'We lack good governance, transparency and accountability. Changes should be made in this case. It is a total change. Social attitudes must change.' He also said, 'We have to think about how to advance the education system nationally. We have to ensure maximum use of our limited resources.'

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ilyas Mia said, traditional agriculture, fisheries and tourism should be considered for creating employment in Sunamganj's Haor area. For this they are thinking of formulating sustainable development plan locally.
