Iqbal Hossain Chowdhury's film 'Bali' is going from Bangladesh to the 97th Academy Awards (Oscars). Its English name is 'The Wrestler'. The movie will compete in the Best International Feature Film category at this year's Oscars. Earlier, 'Bali' won the award in the New Currents category of the 28th edition of the prestigious Busan Film Festival in Korea (2022).
A 7-member 'Oscar Bangladesh Committee' has been formed with producer Matin Rahman as its chairman. After that, this committee invited the film for Oscar. After the screening, the film 'Bali' was unanimously finalized on October 1 to be sent to the 97th Oscars.
'Bali' is a movie sponsored by the Government of Bangladesh in the financial year 2020-21. Nasir Uddin Khan played the lead role in the movie. He played the role of a harried jailer in Sagar Par. The film was continuously shot in the coastal area of Chittagong in April-May 2022. Saiful Azim and Syed Gausul Alam Shaon are co-producers of the film.Earlier, 'Bali' won an award in the New Currents category at the prestigious Busan Film Festival in Korea (2022). This is the first time a Bangladeshi film has been recognized as the best in Busan.
The 97th Oscar Awards will be held on March 2, 2025. The award will be given to 24 branches at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, California. Best International Feature Film is one of those categories.
